The dark side of life.

For every now and then, we keep hearing these incidents and the accidents that take place around the world. But there are these two incidents which took place recently and have prompted me to give them a deep thought. 

A dentist who was just passing by the road this day, probably thinking about those appointments or a particular case of some old fellow trying to get his tooth fixed, got struct by a motorist. It was a minor accident at most. The man riding that bike along with his pillion driver got in an argument with the doc obviously. A bunch of people gathered around them as it is the case in most of the accidents. With some trying to know what happened, some trying to take their frustrations out, if only they succeed in initiating a beat down and a few of them actually running to help the injured one. 

                                Watching all of them, the motorist along with the juvenile fled away from the scene. The doc thinking it as just another accident probably, was gone as well in a few minutes. But the argument with the doc prompted the two of them to take their revenge. Instead of accepting their fault, they took it upon themselves to make sure the justice(as 'they' believed) was served. They came back, along with a dozen others, with only one motto and that was to beat him. So harsh that he actually bled to death. The doc who was destined to save a few lives, had to endure a vicious beating. He had probably wondered why was he even given a life to live on this earth when it was to be taken without mercy. He was not alone however to suffer the wrath of the motorist and his accomplice, a relative of the doc who was trying to stop them got injured badly. Someone who was probably counting on those deeds he had done and was supposed to do, which could earn him a place in heaven on the judgement day that awaits us all was left with only a few moments of the agony. They made sure that he will not last long enough to be carried to a hospital.  The sheer pain he had to suffer was the example of how cruel this world can be!

Another incident that took place in the southern part of the country was that of a young girl who met a paedophile. The guy who was 20 years old made a lot of attempts to persuade a 14 year old. Sensing the situation to be perilous she told her parents about him. The girl was a regular to feature in the Under 14 team of her state. To accomplish her dream of playing for the country she toiled day after day. 

                                                                                                      One such day she was going to her practice session and she didn't even realise what had hit her. The boy came after her with a knife, but it was not to coax her this time.Instead,he stabbed her multiple times. The humiliation of multiple rejections had taken over his mind. Even when her coach came to the aid of the young girl, he didn't stop. The girl was wounded badly courtesy of the boy. She ran towards her home which was about 200 meters away from there. She used to run 10 times the distance everyday, but today every step felt like a kilo meter indeed. The boy didn't stop there only, he went after her again and before she could reach her home he made sure she succumbed to her own wounds. The coach's effort are to be questioned or not, I can not say but the report suggests he tried his level best to intervene. She suffered because she dared to thwart the wrong. That puts us all in a dilemma whether it is right to stand up against the wrong or its better to silently embrace it.

Now, these kind of situations make me wish for those super powers. The powers which can actually help me stop these cruel minded people. But even with all those super powers I fear the world won't be a safer place for as long as the mind is our own adversary.

Mentality of Youth

Now, before I get to the actual point , I would like to share that this is my first post. I was just having a discussion with one of my friends and it occurred to me that how mentality of one person can have a huge impact on the society. It may seem to be a lame statement but as I progress, there will be  a slight change in your attitude towards the statement.

The majority of youth seems to be having a common perception about the dressing sense of a girl/woman that they should avoid wearing revealing clothes because it draws unwanted attraction. Now, 'this' here is what I believe creates a dilemma. There are two ways I can counter this perception. First, for all the boys who share this perception, try putting yourself in their place and imagine how would you like it when all the eyes point towards you when you dress a bit revealing. Now there might be some who would say that they won't feel unpleasant just for the sake of making their point right. Just stop here for a second and give it a real thought before moving on to conclusion. There may be some creeps who would still say that they are fine if girls are attracted towards them if their clothes are revealing. What if a man starts to tease them or worse, a 'group' of bullies? What part of that meeting would you like?  Forget revealing, some even question it when a girl is wearing shorts. I mean its not wrong when you wear it yourself. And it gets worse when the reason for their defiance is that "It's not OK for 'girls' to wear them". Since when did they become the rule-makers and and the ones to decide what is OK for whom. Everything is fine unless it's obscenity. Second, for anyone saying it's not alright for men even. One can have his/her point of view but it should not be forced on others. If you believe it doesn't look good then you have every right of not wearing it but you simply can not question others because you think it is inappropriate. Every citizen has a Freedom of Thought but it does not allow him/her to pass judgement on others. 

 Now, what got me thinking this in the first place was a Facebook post shared by one of my friend saying the exact same line. The post described it as words of a company's chairman. Although I have a reasonable doubt that the words were disguised and were actually of some other individual. The message it conveyed was that a girl's body is precious like gold or pearls so it should be covered properly. Like pearls and the other stuff is hard to extract, similarly a boy must feel your worth and in order to extract the 'treasures' he must marry you. 

                                                                      The person (whoever said/wrote it) is wrong in comparing two completely different things. One can not simply compare a natural event to another just because they are so desperate to make others believe them. Just because 'you'(Chairman) want 'them'(those two girls who supposedly wore vulgar clothes) properly dressed you can not generalize it for everyone. If they are so keen in maintaining their decorum they must pass the instruction(s) to their employees. They can not tell others what stuff they must wear just because a natural event which has nothing to do with it, is compared to the way they are dressed. When I saw the post being shared, I told him (my friend) straight away via FB comment that it's not fair to compare two different things and after that I had to hit the gym. He told me there, that he had replied to the comment and we started arguing there. We were just getting started and I told him that I will explain it to you there in detail to which we both agreed. Hell ! I even told him that I am ready to stretch this conversation for days and I am not gonna back down. To which he said I am not gonna lose either. Now, this conversation had an interesting factor added to it that is who's gonna win?
                                                             He provided me with a bunch of arguments some of which were, the girls should not be even compared to boys on every aspect i.e. a boy can wear whatever he wants but girls can not because on that aspect they are different from boys. He even said, a boy could roam  around without a shirt on but girls can not. I mean just because a girl has a different body structure doesn't mean you can treat her any different than a boy. 

                                                                                                                           And to add to all of these worthless arguments, he said girls in 'India' should at least understand that it's not our culture to wear clothes which are a bit revealing and as far as foreign countries are concerned, they can, because their culture supports it! I mean how could anyone say something like this. Girls in Saudi Arabia wear burkas (covering their faces along with the whole body), even then rapes and eventually murder in some cases are happening on daily basis. What provokes a man in that situation? The clothes? NO! His mentality. 

                                         At last he said, If you think you can change my point of view then explain me what exactly you want me to understand. This seemed more like a challenge rather an effort to understand where he was wrong. I tried more than I should have to at least make him understand my point and change the way he thinks about this, but all my efforts were in vain I guess and I could not even change one bit of it. Now, I understand it was a one-on-one conversation so why would he bother to accept my opinion. But it was not, because later, a classmate(girl) of ours joined the conversation and provided him with two precise points which I was unable to make and seriously, for a moment it felt like now he might start thinking it in a different manner.You know I saw a ray of light , maybe a little one bu it was there at least. Just after writing the second paragraph of this post I checked my cell for some texts, I had received about a half a dozen from him still trying to prove his point. I was left with no option but to end that argument with him still sticking to his initial thoughts and call it day! 

I am not able to decide what makes me more dejected whether it's me loosing the argument even after trying my level best or the fact that he said there are many like me and a few like you  and still sticking to those horrible thoughts. I guess the stubbornness won today.
